The landscape design for this police station lends support to the contemporary architecture with a simple but strong concept. Date palms flank the entrance from Loma Drive and meet a screen of eucalyptus trees bordering the parking structure. The screen begins at the secondary entry to the police station at 4th Street, follows along the parking structure, and points the way to the main building entry of the station. California desert scenery with red rocks and cactus are depicted on the adjacent slope. An outdoor courtyard that is defined by masses of colorful drought tolerant shrubs and flowering accent trees serves as an extension of the employee dining room. The landscape concept engages sculptural shapes, colorful massing of materials, and interesting plant textures to define and accent various outdoor spaces.
