About the Firm

Cornerstone Studios, Inc. (CSI), a California corporation established in 1998, specializes in landscape architecture, park planning, urban design, and resource analysis. It is a Minority, Disadvantaged, Underutilized, Small, and Community Business Enterprise (MBE, DBE, SBE, CBE) certified by various public agencies.

Cornerstone Studios is a professional services firm whose projects encompass a wide range of the built environment, with emphasis on outdoor improvements, park and recreation areas, transportation facilities and streetscapes, schools and athletic fields, commercial and urban sites, housing and hospitality design, healthcare, civic facilities and community centers.

As a design-oriented firm, the principals believe successful projects are created when all involved are committed to a full partnership in the creative process. Their goal is to bring the collective experience of the client, the users, and the design team to bear on each project. Their approach encourages close interaction and exchange of ideas while ensuring that the project is managed within the allotted budget and time. This is accomplished by engaging experienced individuals and by using the latest technology to convey the design in a clear and accurate manner.

Our Team

  • Renie Meier-Wong, ASLA, PLA

    PRINCIPAL

    An established landscape architect with over 30 years of professional experience, Renie Meier-Wong integrates artistic aesthetics with practical project requirements. She has completed diverse projects in urban design, transportation, campus redevelopment, parks and recreation, and institutional work.

    She emphasizes innovative design, attractive graphics, accurate construction documents, and on-time, on-budget delivery. By working closely with clients, she achieves cost-effective results.

    She earned her Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania, with an emphasis in Urban Design.

  • Don Wilson, ASLA, PLA

    PRINCIPAL

    Mr. Wilson brings over 40 years of experience in landscape architecture, construction, and project realization. He manages design, technical, cost, and project management aspects to ensure projects are well-crafted, buildable, and on budget.

    His work includes master plans, visual studies, water conservation studies, and design guidelines for parks, schools, streetscapes, and housing communities. His designs emphasize low maintenance, accessibility, compatible plant associations, and reuse of sites and materials.

    He earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from UC Berkeley.

  • Jeff Woo Kim, ASLA, PLA

    PRINCIPAL

    With over eighteen years at Cornerstone Studios, Mr. Kim brings a thoughtful and creative approach to every project. His strengths include design leadership, project management, and attention to detail.

    He has extensive experience working with government agencies at city, county, and federal levels and is responsible for taking projects from conceptual design through construction documentation, including coordination with sub-consultants.

    He earned his Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from California Polytechnic University, Pomona.

  • Rick Blanchard, PLA

    SENIOR ASSOCIATE

    Mr. Blanchard is a senior designer and project manager with over 35 years of experience in landscape architecture and irrigation design. He has worked on over 100 park projects, handling design, documentation, supervision, cost estimates, graphics, and specifications.

    His experience includes parks, streetscapes, retail, commercial, institutional, and industrial projects. He has also served on water conservation and landscape ordinance advisory committees for the County and City of San Diego.

    He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from UC San Diego and studied Landscape Architecture at Michigan State University.
